Tenkasi North - Zion nagar pastorate lies in the northern part of the large town tenkasi. It is a recently developed congregation. But its origin is deeply rooted in the pioneer work done by SPG and CMS missionaries around the town in the 19th century. The pioneer work of Rev.Rhenius during the early part of 19th century and the meritorius work done by missionary George Barunbruck in Surandai had tremendous influence over this town. At that time tenkasi was dominated by fundamental Hindus and a very large Hindu temple was built at the centre of the town by the native king Arthiveerabarakirama Pandian. Since then, Tenkasi become a place of pilgrimage for Hindus.

Tenkasi north is newly develped area of this town. Most of the people are educated, belonging to lowe middle class of the society.

In the year 1997, house prayer group was formed in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and 24 families joined worship group. Similiarly, in the extension area called K.R. Colony another house worship group was formed with 9 families. All these 33 families joined together in 1998 and decided to build a church building and purchase a building site for the same. First, a temporary church building with mud walls and tin-sheet roof was built in a corner of the purchased site and the same was dedicated on 13.12.1998.

On 9th Jan 2000 the foundation stone for a large church building was laid and the same was build and dedicated by the Rt. Rev.Jeyapaul David on 30.12.2006. The congregation grew up and it attained the status of a separate 'Pastorate' with a full time presbyter with effect from 01.04.2009.
